Three Questions With: Project Manager Sheldon Scott
Q: Tell me a bit about what you do and the type of projects that you work on.
I’m a project manager, so at a high level, I oversee M/E/P (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) projects as they relate to budget and schedule. As some would say, herding cats.
My background includes working as a mechanical engineer. I was a project engineer coming out of college, and then I worked up the ranks and got some experience in the energy-efficiency industry, dealing with cost savings related to building upgrades. For most of my career, I’ve worked on efficiency upgrades for heating and cooling systems, lighting, controls, and things like that.
Q: When thinking about HVAC systems, along with other lines of your work, what should clients be aware of when they are building out those systems?
Don’t expect things to go perfectly. That’s the big one. Every project has its nuances, and there’s no telling what will happen and what you’ll run into once you open up something from an existing building or existing infrastructure. Every system has its own variables, and it’s important to lay out expectations early on, so that everyone involved can plan for the challenges that may come up in the process.
Any fun facts that people might not know about you?
I DJ wedding events in my spare time! I have also worked in the public sector as a project manager. Just in Connecticut, there are over 300 post offices, and part of my responsibility was to manage the different repairs and alterations that take place.
