Transformation of a Shopping and Entertainment Village
The newly renovated and expanded Street in Chestnut Hill, just west of Boston, offers a dynamic mix of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Some of its popular destinations include Showcase SuperLux, Legal Sea Foods, Del Frisco’s Grille, The Cottage, Star Market, and more. This 406,000-square-foot property, formerly known as the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center, is conveniently located along Route 9 between Hammond Street and Hammond Pond Parkway.
A Village Flair
Tighe & Bond teamed with WS Development Associates, LLC to make this major redevelopment a reality. In addition to bringing in numerous new high-end tenants, this project included the relocation of WS Development’s headquarters to a three-story building overlooking Hammond Pond. The development features a village-like streetscape complete with pedestrian walkways, outdoor dining, and new, contemporary buildings.
Notable Features
Hammond Pond, which is considered a great pond, borders this site. To protect this natural resource area, and improve the water quality of runoff discharging to the pond, Tighe & Bond incorporated numerous sustainable features into the renovations, expansion, and site improvements. These included a new underground infiltration basin, porous paver systems in parking areas and sidewalks, and the construction of a new park area and landscaped islands. The redevelopment also involved the redesign and control of Frontage Road between Route 9 and the site, including lighting, drainage, parking, and landscaping improvements.
