New SCADA System has a 99.5% Success Rate
Tighe & Bond completed the installation of a new Wonderware Intouch SCADA system installed on a Dell Desktop PC connected to 13 remote pump stations by an Ethernet radio communications network. We designed a Remote Telemetry Unit (RTU) control panel complete with an Allen Bradley PLC and CalAmp Viper SC Ethernet radio with battery backup (UPS) in a NEMA4 enclosure for all of the locations. The Master Telemetry Unit located at the Water Tank is programmed to poll all the remote sites and report back to the SCADA system located at the Town of Southwick’s Department of Public Works (DPW) office. The polling loop to communicate with all sites is about 28 seconds, with a 99.5% success rate.
The SCADA system has alarm notification software to alert operators of an issue at any of the sites. There is also reporting software that automatically fills data into the required Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) monthly reports. The system can also expand if Southwick wants to add more remote sites and the radio network specifically selected will allow additional communications for any security cameras or pictures sent to the DPW.
