Creating a More Resilient Cape Cod

Click the graphic above to access the GIS map.

Cape Cod, with its densely populated coastal areas, significant marine infrastructure, and diverse ecosystems, faces considerable risks from climate change. This region, critical for both environmental and economic reasons, is vulnerable to the impacts of rising sea levels and extreme weather events. Coastal communities on Cape Cod can reduce these risks by protecting vital infrastructure, preserving natural habitats, and implementing sustainable, resilience-based land use practices. Our team has supported clients on Cape Cod in adopting strategies to address these challenges, including:

  • Designing and upgrading coastal infrastructure to enhance protection against storms and extreme weather, improving communities’ resilience to sea level rise and extreme storms.
  • Restoring natural ecosystems by replacing failing or undersized culverts, restoring tidal flow, and rehabilitating or removing dams to reestablish wildlife habitat.
  • Stabilizing coastal embankments by engineering replacements for deteriorating bulkheads or revetments.
  • Enhancing water quality in marshes, rivers, streams, and other waterways.

Our team has prepared a GIS-based map showcasing some of our most recent coastal resiliency projects along the Cape Cod shoreline. Click on the pins to explore each project in more detail.
