Ian Catlow and Wayne Bates Inducted into Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers (5S)
We are pleased to congratulate Ian Catlow, PE, and Wayne Bates, Ph.D., PE, ENV SP, on their inductions into the New England Chapter of the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers (5S) to recognize their contributions to the water industry.
The society, consisting of chapters across the United States and Canada, was created to recognize members of water environment associations that may not receive coveted industry awards or become association president, but contribute in some outstanding measure to the mission and wellbeing of their related associations.
Potential members cannot apply to join but are nominated and voted in by current chapter members based on merit. The New England Chapter evaluates and recognizes potential members for their efforts towards advancing the Water Environment Federation, the New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA), or both through enhancing and improving the association’s conferences, specialty seminars, and other activities through committee service, program presentations, meritorious service and diligence, and other efforts worthy of special recognition.
Wayne has over three decades of experience providing environmental engineering services to clients. He served as Chair of NEWEA’s Sustainability Committee, is a two-time runner-up in the NEWEA Source Water Brewers contest, and is a frequent presenter and moderator at NEWEA conferences and events.
Ian has over 26 years of water and wastewater design experience working on projects throughout New England. He has served as the chair of the Water Reuse Committee and Small Community Committee and he has also been a member of the Collection Systems Committee. He is a frequent presenter and moderator at NEWEA conferences.
Ian and Wayne were one of 20 new members inducted into the society at the NEWEA Annual Conference & Exhibit, where they received their golden shovel emblems to wear to indicate their good standing when attending association events as well as honorary golden shovels.
