Connecticut Section AWWA Annual Technical Conference and Vendor Exposition
Join us at the 2023 Connecticut Section AWWA Annual Technical Conference and Vendor Exposition (ATCAVE), held on February 28 at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. Tighe & Bond staff will be participating as presenters and attendees. Additionally, our firm will have a vendor booth at the exposition. Come by our booth and learn more about our firm’s long-standing, multi-disciplinary experience in water & wastewater engineering and environmental consulting.
During Session B-2, held from 1:00 to 3:30 pm, Tighe & Bond engineers Heather Doolittle, PE, and Lesley Milligan, PE, will deliver a presentation titled “Using Water Quality Models to Address Low Chlorine Residual in Distribution Systems”.
Chlorine is an important disinfectant residual in drinking water systems, meaning that low levels of it are added to the water supply in order to protect against dangerous bacteria and other microbial contaminants. This presentation will summarize previous efforts to detect and address excessively low chlorine residual in several water systems. As water quality models continue to advance, hydraulic models have been updated to incorporate water quality modeling. The findings from this modeling are now being used to better understand system-wide variations in chlorine residual, as well as to simulate improvements to address areas of low chlorine.
