Project Manager Alex Fagnand, PE, ENV SP uses his expertise in civil engineering to address the transportation needs of communities across Massachusetts. His vast skill set includes roadway design and construction, ADA compliance, multimodal accommodations, culverts, small bridges, and stormwater systems. Alex has worked on numerous publicly funded transportation projects, successfully guiding clients through complex design, permitting and construction processes.

Alex’s work in Tighe & Bond’s transportation practice has greatly contributed to the expansion of this growing service within our firm. As a leader in both design and quality control of projects he is helping Tighe & Bond establish and build pivotal employee groups that allow our experts to thrive. He is an active member of the Transportation Community of Practice where the latest technologies and best practices are brought to the table for members to discuss areas of success and improvement. He is part of the firm’s Procore Working Group that addresses the continual updates to this crucial construction management software, and he helped to lead the roll out of Bluebeam software.

His expansive involvement in Tighe & Bond’s transportation services and leadership programs also allows him the opportunity to mentor young engineers. Alex understands the importance of mentorship and looks forward to working with staff to help them develop through hands on training.

In his career with Tighe & Bond, Alex has achieved a number of accomplishments, both within the firm and the greater community in Western Massachusetts, including associate ownership, project management, committee leadership, and impacts to the area’s public infrastructure. Alex is a founding member of the firm’s Quality Management Committee, which focuses on the project delivery process, auditing projects to provide feedback to senior leaders on client experiences and the quality of project work. The idea for this committee was pitched by Alex and his fellow colleagues who participated in Tighe & Bond’s Aspiring Leaders program. Alex then participated in the firm’s Leadership Institute where he received training on leadership skills.

Outside of work, Alex is an active member in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). Within these organizations he regularly attends trainings and events to keep tabs on industry changes and learning opportunities.

Alex also focuses on STEM outreach and education. He has volunteered for the Holyoke Community College Jr. Employer Expo and the Westfield High School Science Fair. He has conducted career presentations for the Northeastern University ASCE Student Chapter and Westfield State University’s 2021 Senior Wetlands Delineation Class.

Growing up working at his family’s lumber yard, Alex developed a respect and appreciation for the construction industry and decided to pursue civil engineering to become a problem solver for his community. He is in his third year serving on the Westfield Conservation Commission. As the sole engineer amongst the Board, he works to protect the City’s wetlands resources and ensures applications are in line with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act. Alex is also the Assistant Treasurer and Secretary for the Tri-County Highway Superintendents Association and has led a Complete Streets workshop session at the Climate Ready: Deerfield 2030 forum to explore a more resilient and sustainable downtown Deerfield with its residents.
