Senior Environmental Scientist Bryan Gammons Honored by WBJ As a 40 Under 40 Leader

Senior Environmental Scientist Bryan Gammons has been named to the Worcester Business Journal’s (WBJ) 40 Under 40 Class of 2020. This award recognizes outstanding young leaders who are bringing the Central Massachusetts business community into the future.
Based out of Tighe & Bond’s Worcester office, Gammons has dedicated his 14-year career to making sure that both commercial and residential spaces across the Northeast are safe and healthy environments. He specializes in several areas within his field such as the remedial clean-up of oil and hazardous waste, characterizing materials, ensuring landfills are meeting regulations, and working closely with clients to guide them through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) regulations.
Shaping the Future of Central Massachusetts Through Environmental Science
Gammons uses his expertise on impactful projects spanning from Central Massachusetts to states across New England. For example, as the City of Worcester continues to promote biotech facilities within the medical/biotech district along Route 9, including the site of the former Worcester State Hospital, the City and other local development partners are a step closer towards establishing a biotechnology hub. He serves as a senior scientist/project manager overseeing a comprehensive soil and groundwater pre-characterization program to facilitate the management of soil and groundwater during construction activities at one such biotech location.
“Of the 116 people who were nominated for WBJ’s 40 Under Forty award this year, Bryan Gammons was scored as one of the top five nominees by our judges,” WBJ Editor Brad Kane said. “It’s easy to see why Bryan stands out so highly, even among the best young professionals in Central Massachusetts: He truly has a fiery passion for environmental science, which he combines with practical knowledge and an above-and-beyond attitude toward his work to make a significant impact on major projects throughout New England.”
Investing in the Next Generation of STEM Leaders
Outside of work, Gammons has built a life with his family in Central Massachusetts and has always recognized the importance of strengthening the communities where he lives and works. He has dedicated much of his community service to enhancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education within the City of Worcester. He strives to reach out to children of all ages and backgrounds about working toward a career in environmental science by attending career days at schools such as the Claremont Academy in Worcester.
Gammons is a constant volunteer at EcoTarium events where he walks aspiring engineers and scientists through educational science experiments. He is also an active member of The Central Massachusetts STEM Network Ecosystem. Through this organization, he provides STEM activities for the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester. He is also in the process of developing a backpack drive for the children at the Boys and Girls Club. Gammons is soliciting local businesses for backpacks and school supplies and is hoping to include a fun science experiment each child can play with and maybe even find a love for science.
Making A Difference for Medical Workers
As the needs of our communities have shifted due to the unfolding pandemic, he is working with several healthcare facilities in Worcester and the Central Massachusetts area to support their workers. As doctors and nurses continue to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), their patients never see the faces of the medical workers caring for them. This can make it harder for patients to feel comforted and connected to their caregivers. In response to this need, Gammons worked to print photos of each medical worker and put them on personalized pins so they can be clipped to their gear. He spearheaded the gathering of these personal photos and worked with local businesses to have them printed and supplies donated.

In June, he and his family hand-delivered the personalized photo pins and hand-painted “kindness rocks” with inspiring messages to UMass Memorial Medical Center caregivers. The UMass Memorial Medical Center has experienced so much success with the use of these personalized pins they are assigning hospital staff to oversee the continued production of the pins to ensure they are provided to thousands of staff members.
As a member of the Class of 2020, Gammons now joins 800 other business leaders in the Central Massachusetts and MetroWest region who have been named a 40 Under 40 leader since WBJ launched the program in 2000.
