Engineers Week 2025: Designing for the Future

National Engineers Week (February 16 – February 22) is a time to highlight the important work that engineers do, as well as to promote the need for engineers and educate the next generation.

The theme of Engineers Week 2025 is “Design Your Future” – celebrating the importance of bold design and creative thinking in engineering. To celebrate this year’s National Engineers Week, we asked our team how their work promotes a more resilient and sustainable community.

Project Manager, Transportation

Using various funding sources set up to support projects that improve resilience, we collect data on a Town’s culvert inventory and assess the likelihood of failure versus the consequence of failure for each unique culvert.

With this information, we can identify the most critical culverts and work with the Town to prioritize rehabilitation or replacement with a focus on vulnerability, resilience, and ecological restoration.

Prashanth Emmanuel, PE

Senior Project Manager, Water

We have completed an initial study focusing on resiliency improvements for seven pump stations in Fairfield, Connecticut, and will begin designing upgrades for stations that are situated in high-risk flood zones.

These improvements will safeguard the Town’s wastewater infrastructure, minimize the effects of a storm, and allow for the system to recover in a timely and efficient manner after a flood event.

Project Manager, Building Services

Our East Gables Passive House Project in Amherst, Massachusetts design focused on energy efficiency, thermal comfort, enhanced air quality and long-term durability within its building systems and building design to be more resilient to climate change, while providing a healthy and comfortable environment for its residents.
