Easthampton’s Rise as a Clean Energy Leader
One of the largest and first of its kind solar installations in Massachusetts, this solar system reuses a former city landfill, makes Green Community strides, and reaps energy cost savings in the process. It is estimated that Easthampton will save $1.4 million in energy costs over the first 10 years.
A Team Effort
Tighe & Bond teamed with Borrego Solar Systems (Borrego) to perform engineering services and construction administration for the reuse of the closed Oliver Street Landfill in the City of Easthampton, Massachusetts. This project included the construction of a 2.3 megawatt (MW) DC photovoltaic solar farm located on approximately 16 acres of the former landfill. Benefits
This project generates enough power to supply electricity for 20% of the municipal buildings in Easthampton. Under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Borrego Solar, the City recognizes benefits through the purchase of discounted energy.
Services Snapshot
Our services for this solar energy system included constructability evaluation, stormwater analysis, geotechnical engineering, and construction phase services to monitor system installation. We also provided wetland delineation and permitting.
