The Town of Harvard experienced a bacteria hit at their wellfield in July 2021, which required the town to seek 4-log certification. The water quality of the wells was assessed to determine appropriate final treatment. Due to competing water quality issues and the lack of a cost-effective treatment method, the town approached the Devens Utilities Department to assess a potential interconnection. This presentation highlights the opportunity for regional collaboration to combat the evolving water quality standards facing today’s suppliers

Portsmouth Water’s Sakonnet River Emergency Interconnection, 10:15AM

The Portsmouth Water and Fire District (PWFD) maintains an emergency interconnection with the Stone Bridge Water District in Tiverton, RI, that passes under the Sakonnet River. In November 2021, PWFD hired a firm to clean and inspect the underwater crossing. The inspection found minor abnormalities, pinhole leaks and hairline cracks within the existing pipe. This presentation will provide a project overview and discuss the alternatives for rehabilitation and replacement for the interconnection and the funding sources.
